BRIDGE REPAIRS
As the Principal contractor to the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP), Road & Bridge completed significant bridge repairs to four bridges structures along Tamboritha Road, in the Yarra Ranges National Park.
The general scope of works that was carried out on this project included crack sealing of bridge abutment joints; replacement of bridge deck joints over piers; concrete repairs & protective coating to abutment walls to VicRoads Standard Section 689; refurbishment of steel bridge bearings; replacement of timber posts on BCTA’s and the cleaning of bridge decks and scuppers.
A significant feature of this project was the refurbishment of the steel bridge bearings which required the safe removal of an existing lead- based paint on the bearings, and preparing the exposed surface with a power tool clean using vacuum shrouded power tools to AS 1627.2, Class St 3. Once the exposed area was deemed acceptable the specified coating product was applied with each bearing requiring two coats.
The project required adherence to GHD technical specifications and our clients tick of approval at specific hold points during construction before works could proceed. Working with such parameters, Road & Bridge were able to complete this 12-week contract within 5 weeks.
