Bridge Construction
Teesdale
As the major subcontractor to Begbie Contracting, Road & Bridge were engaged to demolish the existing 2-span timber and steel ‘Wall Bridge’ spanning Native Hut Creek and replace it with a twin-span concrete structure including an adjacent foot bridge in Teesdale for The Golden Plains Shire.
Working above and adjacent to a sensitive waterway and creek-bed system (Native Hut Creek), works included the environmental planning and regular monitoring to mitigate any environmental disturbance risks.

The new Wall Bridge structure is a twin span reinforced concrete bridge with 12.5m long spans with integral abutments supported over the crosshead.
The scope of works included demolition of the existing 2 span timber & steel bridge; precast / prestressed concrete driven piles; cast in-situ abutments and crossheads; the manufacture and erection of 450mm deep super-t-beams; reinforced concrete (RC) deck and a pedestrian footpath (on one side); the manufacture and installation of steel barrier railing; rock beaching of the creek embankments; safety barrier terminals to tie into the existing road formation and all associated roadworks.
The original design had pre-cast abutments and crossheads, however to eliminate the potential of the driven piles being out of tolerance Road & Bridge opted to construct cast in-situ abutments and crosshead to eliminate this potential risk from occurring and provide greater certainty of on-time delivery of the project.
