Bridge Construction
Flinns Road
As the head contractor, Road & Bridge were engaged by the Department of Environmental, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP) for the design and construction of a new 10m single span bridge to replace the existing timber bridge on Flinns Road, Nunniong in East Gippsland.
Due to the remote location and high altitude of this crossing, in conjunction with our design partners BG&E, we developed a design that eliminated any cast in-situ concrete works on site. Furthermore, due to favourable ground conditions for driven piles we were able to eliminate the need for any cast in- situ concrete works on-site.

The scope of works included design and geotechnical investigations; demolition of existing timber bridge structure and minor earthworks; steel driven piles; precast abutments, abutments and bridge planks placements; post tensioning works; installation of bridge railing; off structures guardrail, crushed rock pavements and road furniture.
Given the remoteness of the site, and the quick turn in weather conditions, Road & Bridge managed their subcontractors and pre-cast works so to limit the time on-site each visit as well as programming works on-site in between bad weather events.
Furthermore, the steep terrain and poor site access tracks meant that the crane and plank deliveries had to be methodically planned to get to site.
The project was successfully delivered on time during challenging weather conditions as well as COVID19 workplace restrictions.
