Golden Plains Project

BRIDGE REPLACEMENTS

As a major subcontractor to Begbie Contracting, Road & Bridge replaced two old existing structures that had load limit restrictions on them with two new reinforced concrete bridge structures near Rokewood in the Golden Plains Shire. Road & Bridge were able to successfully project manage, consult with the Golden Plans Shire and deliver the full scope of works for both project sites two months earlier than the contract completion date.

The new bridge structures were both single span reinforced concrete bridges with 15m & 19m long spans with integral abutments. The scope of works included demolition of the existing concrete, timber & steel bridges, installing steel driven piles, cast in-situ abutments, manufacture and erection of 550mm & 750mm deep super t-beams, reinforced concrete deck, manufacture and installation of steel barrier railing, rock beaching of the creek embankments and associated roadworks including safety barrier terminals to tie into the existing road formation.

The original design stipulated pre-cast abutments, however to eliminate the possibility of the driven piles being out of tolerance Road & Bridge opted to construct cast in-situ abutments to eliminate this risk and provide greater certaintyof on-time delivery of the project.
