Bridge Replacement
Factory Road
Road & Bridge completed this project for the Baw Baw Shire Council, which involved the construction of two new bridges alongside the existing bridges to maintain access throughout the works.
The project was undertaken in a highly constrained environment with environmentally sensitive waterways, requiring careful staging and coordination of works.
The smaller of the two bridges was a simply supported plank bridge with an in-situ reinforced concrete deck, while the larger bridge was designed as an integral plank bridge, also featuring an in-situ deck.

Both bridge structures were founded on driven reinforced concrete piles, with in-situ concrete works completed for the abutments. The works also included the installation of rock beaching, as well as the installation of bridge safety railing and guard rail terminals.
In addition to the bridge structures, the project included drainage and pavement works. This involved the installation of 110 linear metres of 375mm reinforced concrete pits, and installation of precast headwalls with flood gates. The pavement works comprised full-depth asphalt pavement construction.
Given the environmentally sensitive nature of the site, all works conducted within the drain and river, including embankment stripping and construction of rock beaching, were carried out under full-time supervision by an ecologist. This oversight ensured minimal impact on the sensitive fauna and aquatic habitats present within the waterways.
