Enfield Project

BRIDGE CONSTRUCTIONS, ENFIELD STATE PARK

As a major subcontractor to Decmil Southern, Road & Bridge was contracted to demolish two load limited (10t) timber bridges within Enfield State Forest, replacing them with two new 12m single span reinforced concrete bridges.

Located in a state park, both construction sites had several sensitive cultural heritage areas that need to be managed and protected. Cultural heritage protection on this project involved the Road & Bridge project team being inducted by the Wadawurrung Aboriginal Corporation before works could commence. Areas of significance then had to bebarricaded off before the commencement of works and periodic inspections were undertaken by the Corporation to ensure all aspects of our Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) was being adhered to.

The scope of works included the full bridge demolition and replacement build to the exclusion of the supply of precast planks and post tensioning works. Works involved extensive site clearing and earthworks to meet design turning circle parameters; demolition of existing timber bridge structures; both bored and driven piles; cast in-situ abutments; placement of bridge planks; installation of bridge railing and off structure guardrail, crushed rock pavements and road furniture.

The construction of works involved considered and planned traffic management at times. The bridges were closed and traffic diverted for a two day period to allow for the installation of the new bridge beams.
